Pacific Islanders Graduate From the REMOTE Program

Released Thursday, May 21, 2009

In May 2009, eight Pacific island students graduated from the University of Hawai‘i with Masters of Education (MEd) degrees. These students were part of the Regional Educational Masters Online Training in Evaluation (REMOTE) program. We congratulate the eight graduates from around Micronesia and American Samoa: Vaaalutasi Faiaip.au, Kamo Koloi, Siupolu Tela-Faasao, and  Nu’u Tilo (American Samoa), Abraham Rayphand (Chuuk, Federated States of Micronesia), Maria Dison (Pohnpei, Federated States of Micronesia), Kenson Alik (Republic of the Marshall Islands), Marleen Ngirametuker (Republic of Palau) .

REMOTE was a partnership between Pacific Resources for Education and Learning (PREL) and the University of Hawai‘i College of Education and was sponsored by the National Science Foundation. In order to earn their degrees, students completed a rigorous 2-year program of coursework online. This program was developed as a distance learning graduate program in evaluation specifically designed to meet the unique needs of participants in the Pacific region. The intended impact of the program was to build the capacity of education leaders in the Pacific to appropriately and effectively conduct and utilize program evaluation.
