Parent Information and Resource Center, Federated States of Micronesia
The Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) Parent Information and Resource Center (PIRC) is operated by Pacific Resources for Education and Learning and is funded by the U.S. Department of Education (U.S. ED) Office of Innovation and Improvement, under a Parental Information and Resource Centers grant. The established purposes of the FSM PIRC are to: (a) develop and strengthen the relationship between parents and their children’s school and (b) further the developmental progress of children assisted by the project.
The FSM PIRC has offices in Chuuk, Kosrae, Pohnpei, and Yap from which PIRC staff assists schools to implement a parent-inclusive governance structure known as Cluster PTA. Schools implementing the Cluster Model of school reform demonstrate increased involvement of parents in their children’s education, improved learning environments, improved child development, and enhanced reading readiness among participating children. The FSM PIRC staff also delivers services to implement the project’s early childhood education components. The FSM PIRC has full-time staff members in both Chuuk and Pohnpei and half-time staff in Kosrae and Yap.
