Module Information
In Module 3, you will explore early assessment practices, use some authentic assessments key to early literacy, and learn how to set up individual literacy profiles as a way of monitoring student progress.
In Module 3, you will:
- Make personal connections through a reflection journal and weekly Collaboration Group meetings.
- Learn about key early reading assessments – purpose, importance, and administration – and consider using those that are being implemented at local language sites.
- Create individual literacy profiles for students.
- Define key terms in reading assessment, and relate assessment to beginning literacy concepts.
- Evaluate your own growth and the effectiveness of the module.
Note: In this module, you will be exposed to various assessments. There are many more assessments that have not been included in this module from which a teacher could choose. Each assessment will tell you specific items that students can do, but it will not tell you all that they are capable of doing. This information represents only a beginning. As a teacher, it will be up to you to find out as much as you can about your students. In addition, once you have assessed, it is important to periodically check on your students to monitor their progress. Assessment is ongoing and therefore essential that it become part of your regular teaching and learning routine.
