Module Information

Modules 1-5 included lessons about collaborative teamwork, understanding and assessing beginning literacy development, using a variety of literacy approaches, and guided reading. Course 3 will focus on comprehension and community involvement. In Module 6, you will learn instructional methods proven to be effective with culturally diverse learners. The instructional methods and techniques presented here will provide additional information about how to teach reading in an effective manner.

In Module 6, you will:

    • Reflect on your learning, observations, questions, and personal connections.
    • Participate productively in the Collaboration Group process.
    • Understand what literature discussion groups are and how to plan and facilitate them.
    • Understand the process of asking effective questions and providing appropriate feedback.
    • Understand how to include fluency development within the literacy framework.
    • Know the important comprehension strategies and how to include them in the literacy framework.
    • Understand the importance of vocabulary development and how to teach it.
    • Provide peer-coaching using the Profile of Reading Instructional Practices, K-3 instrument.
    • Evaluate your own growth and the effectiveness of the module.

Key Elements of Reading Instruction

You may either read the link online or save and print it. To print, do the following:

  1. Put your mouse on the document and right click. You will see a window that asks you where you want to download the document.
  2. Determine where you want to save the document.
  3. After saving the document, open and print it in MS Word.
