NCLB Resources

States, districts, and schools across the nation are implementing a variety of initiatives to meet the expectations of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB), which reauthorized the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA). The following resources provide information about NCLB and resources to further the implementation of this landmark legislation.

No Child Left Behind: A Desktop Reference. This website describes what is new under the NCLB for each program supported under the ESEA and other statutes.

The U.S Department of Education (U.S. ED): NCLB “Landing”. This U.S. ED website contains detailed information about all aspects of NCLB. Tabs on the upper left hand side of the page link to specific information and resources for students, parents, teachers, and administrators.

Choices for Parents. NCLB provides new options for many families. NCLB allows parents to choose other public schools or take advantage of free tutoring if their child attends a school that needs improvement. The law also supports the growth of independent charter schools, provides certain protections for homeschooling parents, and calls on states and local school districts to provide information to help parents make informed educational choices for their child.

U.S. Department of Education: State Accountability Plans. This website provides links to each state’s accountability plan under NCLB.

Education Commission of States (ECS): NCLB. This website provides links to resources created by the ECS and other organizations that are related to NCLB.

Council of Chief State School Officers (CSSO): Resources On NCLB. The CCSSO is committed to assisting its members successfully implement NCLB. They have developed a variety of reports and resources related to state NCLB efforts.

Learning First Alliance: NCLB Resources. The Learning First Alliance has produced a variety of NCLB-related resources, including guides for talking with parents and the community.

Institute of Education Sciences (IES) Publications. The mission of the IES is to expand knowledge and provide information on the condition of education, practices that improve academic achievement, and the effectiveness of education programs. Its goal is to transform education into an evidence-based field in which decision makers routinely seek out the best available research and data before adopting programs or practices that will affect significant numbers of students.

What Works Clearinghouse (WWC). The WWC was established in 2002 to provide educators, policymakers, researchers, and the public with a central and trusted source of scientific evidence of what works in education.

Comprehensive Center Program: Content Centers. The content centers disseminate knowledge on scientifically-based research on effective practice and research-based products in their area of specialty and support technical assistance to states. They are as follows:
